University of Exeter’s Chinese Students entertain the local community in the Princesshay shopping centre.
University of Exeter students and local community join forces to welcome the Year of the Tiger!
Comedy sketches, martial arts and mask painting were just a few of the sights to be seen as the University of Exeter’s Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) joined together with the local community to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for international students at Exeter to share some of their tradition and culture with the local community. Cornwall House, the location for the event, was inundated with students, University staff, and visitors trying their hand at traditional Chinese crafts and enjoying Chinese cuisine. Children from nearby schools were invited to try Chinese traditional dress, while others watched a spectacular martial arts display, which formed part of a sketch show, organised by members of the CSSA.
The Lord Mayor of Exeter congratulated DVC Prof Neil Armstrong on the growing internationalisation of the University and on the now over 4,000 strong international community from over 120 different countries.
The event culminated with a breathtaking firework extravaganza to conclude all of the hard work and efforts put in by the CSSA and International Team and to welcome the Year of the Tiger!
