Timothy Wood, 3rd Year BSc Psychology
"Meeting people here is pretty easy. All you need to do is get involved. I was a very shy individual when I first came to university. Everything was new to me which made me very anxious all the time. But with the help of the friendly Welcome Team and other supporting departments such as the International Office, I felt welcomed and because a lot more willing and confident in meeting people. Welcome Team members were the first group of students I met after arriving in the UK and they were immensely helpful with all the questions I had. They understood the needs and wants of the new students as all of them were new students not too long ago.
I was a Welcome Team member for two years and a Global Chums mentor last year. Being a Welcome Team member was one of the most meaningful events I've participated in throughout my university life and it has enabled me to broaden my perspective of the University. As for the Welcome Team itself, we are like a big family. Even after Welcome Week, we have regular socials and meet up together for a casual meal to catch up with each other's lives.
The best things about Exeter are the campus environment, safety in the city and the availability of opportunities in the University. The Streatham Campus is just amazing, there is greenery all around the campus wherever you look! But that is not all; the best thing about the campus is there is a mini oasis which allows you to take a very relaxing walk after all that hard revision during the day."

"Before embarking on my postgraduate studies I gained my undergraduate degree in Finance and Economics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and was then employed as the Assistant Brand Manager in Proctor & Gamble (Hong Kong) Ltd. After working for a year in the marketing field, I decided that my interests lay more in Finance. The University of Exeter has an excellent reputation in finance and this, coupled with the fact that their MSc FAFM course structure aligns with the Chartered Financial Statement Analysis Program, made it the natural choice for me.
I'm focusing on Portfolio Management and Financial Statement Analysis and my dissertation topic is 'Investment Analysis of the Automobile Industry in the United States'. I'm specialising in Finance and hope to use this to enter a career in the Finance industry, particularly in Fund Management or Investment Banking.
I have really enjoyed my time here and I would recommend the University of Exeter to anyone. The facilities are excellent and the atmosphere on the beautiful campus is friendly and relaxed. Despite having to get used to the somewhat different taste of English food and the unpredictable UK weather, studying at Exeter has been an enriching experience and one that I'll never forget!"
