Ha-young Hwang, PhD in Drama
"After studying French at Yonsei University in Korea, I worked for Hyundai Marine and Fire Insurance Co Ltd and then as a drama practitioner. I took my MA here, and I’m continuing my studies in the same area – Applied Drama. I’m exploring the place of the body and the bodily experience in the particular context of drama and theatre education practice. My research is exploring the socio-cultural implication of the psychophysical approach to drama practice with teenagers in Korea. Since being at Exeter I’ve attended several conferences, and I recently presented a paper at the international conference ‘Drama and Theatre in Education’ held in Exeter. When I leave I’m hoping to expand my research on the psychophysical approach to Applied Drama practice in diverse social contexts in Korea.
Studying at Exeter is great. The Department of Drama has a strong research community in which many exciting projects produce discussions within or between areas. The warm and supportive feel of the Department makes the experience of being part of the community very special. And Exeter is situated in such a wonderful environment: to walk in the beautiful gardens on campus or by the river is an integral part of my study in Exeter, as it is a precious way to refresh my body/mind!"
