Aden Jabbari, MSc Finance and Management 2008-09
What were your motivations for choosing your postgraduate programme?
People with a finance and/or management-based background are highly respected and in demand. I wanted to broaden my horizons and at the same time have the opportunity to study subjects closely aligned to my interest and current employment. I believe that studying in this area in a renowned University will help develop essential skills and enhance my employability. The University (Streatham Campus) is located close to the city centre. The friendliness of the people and peacefulness in Exeter made life much easier to adjust to a new environment.
Would you recommend this postgraduate programme to someone considering studying here, and if yes, why?
Yes. This programme is very interesting and it combines lectures from the School as well as guest speakers from industry. The lecturers not only teach the theory aspects but also apply this to the real world which gives students the ability to reflect on practice and experience. The teaching style not only focuses on exams, but allows us to gain a more in-depth knowledge of areas of our own interest as well as allowing us to practice what has been taught through group assignments. As a result students who graduate from here are trained to study independently, think critically and creatively and communicate effectively, which is extremely important for their career.
What next?
After my degree I intend to return to my employment at the Central Bank of Malaysia and hopefully be promoted to one of the key senior management positions to help shape the landscape of the financial system of Malaysia.
