Lawrence Choo, MSc Experimental Economics

"I've always had a particular interest in economics and got my degree in Economics and Management from the University of London, by correspondence.  During this time, I also worked in product marketing for Citibank, Singapore, devising marketing campaigns to promote their financial products across Asia.  These experiences made me realise I have so much to learn, which is partly what led me to apply for a postgraduate degree at Exeter.  I'm particularly interested in Experimental Economics as it factors human behaviour into the economics.  The course I'm doing also provides a good balance between the theory and practice.

It's very stimulating when academics challenge conventional schools of thought, and they certainly do that here at Exeter.  I also think it's important for a world-class business school to have a strong network of international students, to provide a global perspective.  When we debate topical issues, it makes you realise how deep the knowledge of many academics here is.  Exeter Business School has a very strong team.  I haven't yet made up my mind what I'd like to do next.  I'd either like to work for an international Management Consultancy, or will go on to do a PhD.  Either way, I've learned you can never have too much knowledge or too many qualifications."

Darwin Huang, BA Economics and Finance

"One of the reasons I chose the University of Exeter Business School is because it has such a good reputation.  Another deciding factor was its location.  Exeter is a relatively small city, yet big enough to cater for all your needs.  It's also nice to be able to get to London easily, at the same time as having stunning scenery right on your doorstep.  Places like Dartmouth and Exmouth are just breathtaking.  So you can enjoy a top quality education in a really beautiful place.

During my time here, I've gained so much practical knowledge.  It's really interesting to understand what's happening in the financial world and why governments make the decisions they do.  The knowledge I've gained through this course will definitely help me in the future.

The people have also been a key part of my enjoyment here.  The lecturers and staff are so friendly - showing genuine interest in their students' progress.  They certainly want to see us succeed, so put in a huge amount of effort during lectures.  The courses are demanding, but you certainly get the support you need.  Overall, my time at Exeter has given me the confidence to take on new challenges in the future.  For me, that means going on to further study or to work in the banking industry.  I'm keeping my options open at the moment.  But whatever I do next, the last three years have certainly helped set me up for it.  And I certainly don't regret coming here - not one bit."
