Naser Abu-Ghazaleh, from Amman, Jordan talks about his experience of studying at Exeter.
Why did you choose to go to Exeter?
The British Council recommended Exeter for my MBA, but in making my final decision I also looked at the reputation of the University of Exeter Business School and the location and size of the University. Most importantly, a friend of mine was there three years ago and highly recommended Exeter.
Was your degree funded?
Yes, it was co-funded by my employer and a Chevening Scholarship from the British Council.
Did the teaching live up to your expectations?
It was very challenging and demanding year - I learned so much through a mixture of lectures, case studies and external speakers from industry. Exeter's lecturers have strong track records in their individual areas of expertise and have maintained very high standards of teaching. The Exeter MBA has certainly lived up to its reputation.
Did you enjoy the social life at Exeter?
Exeter has a lot of attractions and a good nightlife. I found a visit to a nice pub or going to a party at the weekends really takes the tension out of studying - you can't work all the time and you'll deserve a break from the hard work. The International Society organises trips to many different places and this is a great opportunity to explore the UK's beautiful countryside and its rich history. I was made to feel very welcome by my UK colleagues and have made friends with interesting people from all over the world.
And what about your accommodation?
I lived in James Owen Court where most students were postgraduates so it was a good chance to make lots of friends. The rooms were cosy with en-suite facilities. James Owen is very close to the city centre which, for me, was a big advantage.
Anything else you would like to say?
Exeter is a very nice and friendly small town. You will not feel like a stranger here, it is a safe place and easy to get around. I am sure that you think that England is a place where it rains most of the time and you see limited sunshine? Well, compared with what some of you are used to , it is true! But take advantage of the sun whenever you see it, take part in all the social and cultural opportunities and you will have a great time.
