The University has a long history of friendship and collaborative shcolarship with the Middle East and North Africa region, there are currently 55 students at the University of Exeter from Saudi Arabia studying programmes including MEng Renewable Energy, PhD Education, PhD Financial Analysis and Fund Management, PhD Drama and BSc Information Technology Management for Business.
Exeter is particularly famous for its Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. We have been teaching Arabic since 1971, and offer a range of undergraduate degrees in Islamic Studies, Middle East Studies and Arabic. The Institute houses the Gulf Documentation Centre, while the University Library hold about 30,000 specialist volumes on the Middle East. The Institute is committed to promoting intercultural understanding, and since 2003, through the generosity of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Al Saud, has been able to offer financial support to postgraduates looing to spend part of their studies in the Arab world.
