Study Abroad provides students with a unique opportunity to broaden horizons, to learn about a new culture, and to enhance their employability prospects post graduation. The International Office have identified a list of summer schools to consider offered by some of the world's top universities, however students are not confined to participating in these summer schools.  We encourage you to review the following list of summer schools and short programmes and contact the Study Abroad team in the International Office to discuss.

University of Syndey Short Term Summer Program
Session A: 26 May - 7 July 2018
Session B: 8 July - 11 August 2018


Since launching in 2016, the program has grown to include a second session and 2018 will see the broadest range of course offerings to date. Our program is designed to coincide with the Northern Hemisphere summer, with Session A running from 26 May – 07 July and Session B from 08 July – 11 August, 2018.

Students are able to enrol in either session and take one or two classes (up to 12 credit points) from a selection of 30 classes.

This fabulous program includes airport pickup, orientation, social events and guaranteed accommodation for students who apply by our accommodation deadline.

The International Summer & Winter Programs provides students with the opportunity to experience campus life at one of Canada’s top universities.

The programs combine professional development, interdisciplinary studies, and cross-cultural learning opportunities, with time for exploration, relaxation and fun.Three weeks in one of Canada’s most energetic festival cities may inspire future study and career options!

During this program, you will develop skills in:

Each of the three weeks will cover a different theme. The themes for 2018 are Canadian Studies, Entrepreneurship, and Community Engagement.

In order to be considered for the International Winter/Summer Program, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be registered in a full-time undergraduate program at a designated post-secondary institution.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the program start date.
  • All participants are required to sign a Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement in order to participate in the program. More information about this agreement will be available at the time of registration.

Proof of English language proficiency is not required in order to be eligible for the program. However, it is highly recommended that applicants have the equivalent of 70 iBT (TOEFL) in order to be able to fully participate in all aspects of the program.

Offered annually in Victoria BC Canada since 1999, the (ISIBM) Program is available in two formats:

Excursions around Hong Kong will allow students to discover both its cityscape and natural scenery. A wide variety of cultural activities such as cooking classes, calligraphy classes, temple visits and wet market tours will enhance students’ understanding of the local Chinese culture.

2018 Deep Learning Summer Camp

Programme dates:  July 23 to Aug 05, 2018

The Tsinghua Computer Science Department is ranked 5th best in the world according to US News 2016 and is frequently ranked first in national computer science assessments.

The program is open to non-Chinese citizens in their second (3-year bachelor degree) or third year (4-year bachelor degree) undergraduate study in CS or related subjects.

This summer school will provide a thorough training of deep learning, from basic and general concepts to advanced and ad hoc algorithms. It features many applications in computer vision, natural language processing, knowledge graph, social media analysis, multimodal analysis etc.

2018 Tsinghua International Summer School – Environment

Since its inaugural program in 2013, the aim of the international summer school has been to give students from all around the world the opportunity to acquire a deeper understanding of China's current environmental challenges. The rapid development of China's economy in recent years has been accompanied by an energy crisis and severe environmental degradation. It is more important than ever to use creativity and innovation to resolve the potential conflict between economic development and environmental conservation.

The 2018 international summer school equips students in their search for environmental solutions through lectures and discussions led by faculty and guest speakers, as well as site visits to leading environmental facilities and enterprises. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the ancient history and natural beauty of China.

Program Fee: Tuition fees is CNY 18,000.


Qualified applicants will be offered a scholarship which covers the full tuition and accommodation. Other related learning costs will also be covered by Tsinghua University.

Round-trip international airfares, travel insurance and other personal expenses, including transportation and meals, are to be borne by the participants

Tsinghua International Summer School – Experiencing China 2018

For the past two years, Tsinghua International Summer School - Experiencing China has welcomed almost 400 students from more than 50 countries and regions to participate in this experiential learning program that explores the interconnected challenges and opportunities facing China and the world.


This year Tsinghua will once again run the Experiencing China program from July 16th to 27th, based on the same experiential model of learning and cultural immersion activities but with 13 specially designated learning tracks covering a myriad of fascinating topics in the China context including Architecture, Chinese geography, Chinese history, Creative city, Education, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Industry frontiers, Innovation, Online education, Tomorrow’s youth, Urbanization and Women. This is a great opportunity for students to better understand China from an academic and practical perspective by way of immersing themselves in China at one of the nation’s most esteemed and forward thinking higher education institutions, Tsinghua University. The program consists of keynote lectures, group tutorials, field-trips and cultural experiences led by renowned scholars and experts. The summer school’s participants in 2018 will be made up of a 300 strong cohort of the best and brightest young people coming from Tsinghua’s partner institutions across the world.

Universidad de Los Andes Academic Summer Course

Red Tree Study Scholarship Funding

Red Tree Study is offering scholarship funding of $3,900 USD for participation in the 'Peacebuilding in Colombia' Academic Summer Course run by Universidad de Los Andes from Monday 11 June – Friday 29 June 2018. 'Armed Conflict, Peace Processes and the Challenges of Peacebuilding in Colombia', is a three week course, run by Angelika Rettberg, Director of the Masters in Peacebuilding at Los Andes and delivered by the Political Science department there. It will explore the recent history of the Colombian conflict and the challenges of implementing the current peace process. Now entering its third year, the course combines lectures and seminars taught by academics from Los Andes witheducational site visits that deliver practical knowledge of the political and social situation in Colombia. The program includes supervised accommodation in Los Andes student residence, an airport pickup on arrival, and a calendar of social and cultural activities for evenings and weekends, designed to help students explore Colombia as much as possible whilst they are there.

Scholarship information
• $3,900 USD will either be awarded as one full scholarship or two 50% scholarships of $1950 USD each (the final decision on this will be made by the academic selection team and will be confirmed when the winner(s) are announced in April).
• Open to students enrolled on a full-time academic degree course at a UK university for this academic year (2017/18).
The scholarship deadline is Wednesday 28 March 2018, and applicants must submit the completed scholarship application form, the accompanying academic reference, and the general program application form by this date in order to apply for the funding.
• The final selection will be made by Angelika Rettberg, Director of the Masters in Peacebuilding course at Universidad de Los Andes, who also runs the Peacebuilding in Colombia Academic Summer Course.

AU Summer University is Aarhus University’s summer school which takes place on our beautiful campus every year in July and August. The programme consist of a broad variety of courses, taught in English at Bachelor’s or Master’s level, within the fields of: Arts, Business and Economics, Media and Communication, Social Science and Law, Health, Science and Technology. AU Summer University welcomes Danish and international full-time students, exchange students and free movers. In 2017 more than 1800 students participated in 64 courses running from the beginning of July until mid August on and off-campus. DTU Summer University spans three terms: June, July and Augst.  When accepted you can sign up for one or two, or even all three terms.  You can even sign up for June, go travelling in Denmark or Europe in July and come back for another course in August.  You are welcome to follow any course at any department (see course database) as long as you meet the prerequisites for your course of choice.  You have many courses to choose from so if yo uwant ot try something a little outside your major subject area Summer University DTU is just perfect.

Bordeaux INP Aquitaine

 Design your own Internet of Things network: 25 June - 6 July 2018

During this 14 day programme you will participate in exciting workshops offered by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering school (ENSEIRB-MATMECA) of Bordeaux, St Emilion (wine region) and Bassin d'Arcachon (bay close to the Atlantic Ocean).

The objective of the training is to design and make your own connected object using LPWAN LoRa technology.  This training is divided into two parts:

  1. Lectures will be provided on the current trends of LPWAN technologies, PCB design, and the Arduino programming.  Courses on 3D printing and laser cutting will also be included.
  2. A set of hardware and software are provided so design of the connected object can begin!  The course takes place in the heart of Bordeaux INP Fablab called 'Eirlab' where all the hardware and software you are looking for are available.  You will be supported throughout the programme by a team of experts.

After completion, a gateway will be offered to each participant so that their connected object can be used when back home.  If you want, you can shre information collected by your IoT to stay connected with your international programme peers.

In summer 2018, the Mannheim School of Humanities will offer its 6th international Summer School. From July 21st to August 11th, 2018, students may take up to two courses and earn ECTS-credits during their summer break.

Four courses will be taught by internationally renowned professors from North and South America as well as Africa who are invited from abroad specifically for the 2018 Summer School. Greek & Latin Summer School: 18 June - 9 August 2018

UCC’s Greek and Latin Summer School was established in 1999 in order to offer complete beginners the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for reading original Ancient Greek or Latin texts.

The course is ideal for Masters and Doctoral students in any discipline who require knowledge of either language for their future research. However, undergraduate students, teachers and anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in Classics are also more than welcome to apply.

The Summer School was awarded the European Label for Innovative and Creative Language Teaching and Learning in 2004 by the Linguistics Institute of Ireland on behalf of the European Commission. University of Bologna Greek and Latin Summer School: 18 June - 6 July 2018

"Otium sine litteris mors est et hominis vivi sepultura" («leisure without letters is a living death unto man»): so wrote Lucius Annaeus Seneca, philosopher, playwright and tutor to the emperor Nero. And this is also the aim of our Summer School: combining summer holidays in an exciting place with the study of classical languages.




The school offers Intensive Classes in Greek and Latin (44 hours) at different levesl for both languages (beginners and intermediate) and an additional Classical Literature Class (11 hours).  It is also possible to combine two language courses (Latin and Greek, any level in any combination) at a special rate.  The intensive course is equivalent to a semester's work.

Italian Summer Course 2018 - "Intensive Language and Culture"
3rd July – 21st July 2018


In order to assess their current level of Italian, Participants will take a placement test at the beginning of the Course. It will consist in a written and oral test. At the end of the course a frequency and proficiency certificate will be issued to those who have shown regular attendance and progress.

At the end of the course, Participants will be able to deal with everyday social situations and describe events using their past, present and future experiences. They will be able to understand clear and short texts on cultural topics. They will produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest and clear formal text.

At the end of the course, Participants will be able to understand everyday language in any interpersonal and social situation, real and audio-visual texts. They will be able to express their feelings and explain a viewpoint, differentiating finer shades of meaning and using well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects.

Maximum number of Participants per class: 10-12.

Teaching method
Teachers will follow a communicative-functional approach, in order to develop the four basic language skills both separately and as a whole. At the beginning of the course a careful analysis will be carried out to evaluate the students’ special needs and interests.

Teaching material
Teaching materials include a Handbook of Italian as a foreign language for each level, audio-visual and written material taken from various sources will be also used.
A full programme will be given to Participants at the beginning of the course.

The course awards 6 credits (CFU – Crediti Formativi Universitari).

Duration of course
The course is 60 hours long; 4 hours a day, from Monday to Friday. Weekends will be free.
As part of the 60 hours teaching “Workshop activities” are planned for all levels.

The HKUST International Summer Exchange Program (ISP) accepts applications from undergraduate students who are nominated by HKUST’s exchange partners as an exchange student* . If you are interested, please inquire and apply through the study abroad office at your home institution. Applications are normally invited from November to March each year.

Applicants from institutions where the primary medium of instruction is not English are expected to meet one of the following English language requirements:

  • IELTS overall band 6.0;
  • TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) 550;
  • TOEFL computer-based test (CBT) 213;
  • TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) 80

* The supported student must satisfy the conditions or terms as outlined in the exchange agreement between the student’s home institution and HKUST. Students should check with their home institution whether they are eligible to participate in ISP as an exchange student.

The Amgen Scholars Program provides hundreds of undergraduates each year with the opportunity to undertake
scientific research projects at many of the world's leading institutions.

Launched in 2006 in the United States, 2008 in Europe, and 2015 in Japan, Amgen Scholars has expanded to Tokyo,
Kyoto and additional world-class institutions in the U.S. and Europe.

The objective of the program is to provide undergraduate students from different countries (including some from Japan) who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Research experiences are being provided by faculty members of the Graduate School of ScienceGraduate School of EngineeringGraduate School of Pharmaceutical SciencesGraduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science. By the end of their summer experience, students are expected to acquire knowledge and skills for conducting research. The students are also expected to extend their international friendship through the collaborative experiences. These experiences will help the students to develop future collaborations in many situations.

During this 2 week program, you will have the opportunity to attend a variety of lectures focused on developing introductory Japanese Language skills and expand your understanding of Japanese culture and history from ancient times to the present. Business and Politics in a Globalized Mexico

A multidisciplinary program jointly offered by our faculties of Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and International Relations with the purpose of providing international student with a thorough understanding of Mexico, Mexico’s business opportunities and Mexico´s global economic position vs the rest of the world. 

Fully taught in English, this course consists of a three week academic module and an optional three week Spanish language module. 

All students will attend a one week common part where they will learn about Mexico’s past and present and the basis of its current position in Latin America and the global world. After this week students can choose between two options of specialized curriculum: Business and Economics or Politics and International Affairs. The first option will provide them with an informed and meaningful perspective of the Mexican economic and business environment, stressing its relevance for pursuing economic policy or business opportunities in other emerging countries. Students who choose the second option will examine the country’s current political, social and demographic situation highlighting and analyzing some of most complicated challenges it is facing today, including crime, corruption and poverty inequality. They will also study Mexico’s current international position facing the different world regions stressing the importance of a new emerging international scenario.

Students opting to stay for the second three weeks will have 4 daily hours of intensive Spanish Language at A2 or B1 levels.

Accommodation information: International Office will make accommodation arrangements individually with each student. Housing is not owned or operated by ITAM but we work closely with many residences walking distance from campus. A field trip to the high-altitude research station on Jungfraujoch, (3500 ma.s.l.), will provide insights into the latest measurement technologies, as well as the impact of climate change. 

Special discount travel grants ( up to CHF250.-) may be available. Additionally, Bern may offer some grants of CHF250.- for course fees, on a first come first served basis.

United Nations Summer Study, The New School New York

You want to work for social justice at the global level but most United Nations study programs take you sightseeing. Do you want just a cursory tour or do you want to immerse yourself in international affairs?

The United Nations Summer Study (UNSS) program, offered by The New School’s Graduate Program in International Affairs, puts graduate and undergraduate students on the ground in the United Nations and in New York City. Unlike other UN study programs, UNSS takes you beyond a narrow focus on security and diplomacy to investigate development, human rights, humanitarian action, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, environmental, and reform issues. UNSS course work prepares you to understand and engage with contemporary issues, policies, and debates in international affairs. UNSS practicums, not found in any other UN summer program, enable you to gain hands-on experience in the UN system.
