Reporting Changes to UK Visas and Immigration

Reporting Changes to the University

You are required to inform the university if you get a new passport or a new visa that has not been submitted by the International Student Support Office, by taking it to the Reception on the 8th Floor of the Laver Building between 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday. If you are based at the Cornwall campuses, please bring this to the Info Desk at the Peter Lanyon Building between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Your new passport will be scanned and your record updated.

Reporting Changes To UK Visas And Immigration

You, and where applicable your dependants, must report changes to your circumstances to UK Visas and Immigration.  The way you report a change will depend upon what the change is and whether your visa is a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or a Visa Vignette (sticker) in your passport.

Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) Holders

You must complete a Migrant Change of Circumstances (MCC) form for any of the following changes:

  •  You have a new passport.
  •  You need to report a criminal conviction.
  •  There are changes to the relationships with family members who have leave to be in the UK as your dependant.
  •  Change of Address –If you are required to register with the police as a condition of your leave you will need to report your  change of address to them within 7 days, please see more information on our Police Registration webpage.
  •  Any other changes you think UKVI should know of

You will need to complete an application for a Transfer of Conditions (TOC) if any changes are made to your:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Gender
  • Appearance

Visa Vignette (Sticker) Holders

You must complete a Migrant Change of Circumstances (MCC) form for the following changes:

  • You have a new passport - see information below
  • You need to report a criminal conviction.
  • There are changes to the relationships with family members who have leave to be in the UK as your dependant.
  • Change of name.
  • Change of nationality
  • Any other changes you think UKVI should know of.

You can notify UK Visas & Immigration of your change of address using the online form. If you are required to register with the police as a condition of your leave you will need to report your  change of address to them within 7 days, please see more information on our Police Registration webpage.

You do not need to report a change to your appearance, date of birth or gender.

New Passport

If you have a new passport and your visa is a vignette (sticker) in your old passport you do not need to transfer your visa to your new passport as long as you travel with both passports. However, if you want to enter into a tenancy with a private landlord or you want to work, evidence of your leave must be on a biometric residence permit (BRP) or in a current passport therefore you may want to transfer your visa to your new passport. If you are in the UK you will need to apply for a BRP by applying for a Transfer of Conditions  rather than transfer your visa to your new passport.  Please see information about applying for a Transfer of Condtions on the GOV.UK website. https://www.gov.uk/transfer-visa.

Please see the UKCISA website for other benefits to transferring your Tier 4 leave to a biometric residence permit (BRP).
