Doctorate Extension Scheme (Tier 4)
From April 2013 PhD students, or equivalent, holding a Tier 4 visa and successfully completing their degree at a UK University are eligible to apply for this new visa category. This category allows you to stay in the UK for a further 12 months, beyond the end of your programme, to find work or to set up as an entrepreneur. You do not need a job offer but you need to be issued with a new Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) by the University. You will also be required to maintain contact with the University during this 12 months.
Please note: from 12 November 2015 students will need to show £1,015 per month (for 2 months) towards the Tier 4 visa’s maintenance requirement (living expenses). Dependants will need to show £680 per month for 2 months as well.
