Global Chums Cornwall

The University of Exeter's biggest mentor scheme

Global Chums Cornwall is the Cornwall-specific spin-off of Global Chums available to students at the Penryn and Truro campuses in Cornwall.

To help you settle into life in Cornwall, answer specific questions and to help you meet other students, we are happy to invite you to join GLOBAL CHUMS CORNWALL. It’s part of the biggest mentoring scheme across our campuses with over 300 students participating every year.

This page is just for students studying at the Cornwall campuses (Penryn and Truro). If you are studying at the Exeter campuses (Streatham or St Luke's), please visit the Global Chums Exeter page.

How the scheme works

  • All new first year undergraduate International Penryn or Truro based students will be allocated a Global Chums Cornwall mentor (there is no need to apply, we will contact you before you arrive). EU students can request a mentor by emailing at any time
  • Those interesting in being a Global Chums Cornwall mentor should apply using the application form
  • Each mentor will be matched with up to 5 new students
  • You must notify us if you no longer wish to be part of the scheme
  • Socials start on Sunday of arrivals weekend, and run right up until Christmas. We also run a January scheme for our new intake of international exchange students.
  • There will be Global Chums Cornwall organised socials for you to attend with, or without, your mentor
  • You are invited to join the Global Chums Cornwall Facebook group. We will publicise socials there and you can speak to other Chums
  • You can meet your groups outside the socials - this is something you can talk about and organise yourselves
