Overview

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate within Bertram Daum's group at the Living Systems Institute.

My scientific interests revolve around (cryo-)electron microscopy and microbiology.
In my postdoctoral projects I investigate archaeal surface layers (s-layers) using cryo-electron microscopy (i.e. cryo-electron tomography, subtomogram averaging, single particle analysis). S-layers are widespread features within anchaea and bacteria, and mediate many essential functions in these microorganisms. Structurally, an S-layer is a proteinaceous lattice and constitutes the outermost layer in the cell envelope. Understanding in great detail s-layer structures can help us finding an application for nanotechnology and drug delivery.
