Stuart Carney appointed Vice-Dean (Education)

Dr Stuart Carney has been appointed Vice-Dean (Education) of the University of Exeter Medical School.

Currently working for the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO), Dr Carney will join the University of Exeter Medical School on 1 July 2012.

The Foundation Programme is a national two-year generic training programme, which forms the bridge between medical school and specialist or general practice training. As Deputy National Director for the last eight years, Dr Stuart Carney has been one of the key players in establishing the Foundation Programme and in particular improving the quality of curriculum delivery and championing academic foundation placements.

His role as Vice-Dean (Education) will include leading the review of the University of Exeter Medical School's Curriculum and preparing the next generation of medical graduates for safe and effective clinical practice. 

Dr Stuart Carney said: “I am really excited to be joining the team at the University of Exeter to develop and deliver excellent educational programmes, which will nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals and leaders.”

Dean of the University of Exeter Medical School Professor Steve Thornton said: “Dr Stuart Carney will play a key role in establishing the University of Exeter Medical School. His work with the UKFPO gives him great expertise in delivering first-class medical training that prepares students for their careers.”
