CYP Clinic

Children and Young People’s Access to Evidenced Based Psychological Therapies

Who are we?

We are a children and young people’s wellbeing service for 5-18 year olds. We offer support and intervention for low-mood, anxiety, and behavioural difficulties.  If it is helpful, we also work with Parents and Carers alongside the young person.  We have a team of Wellbeing Practitioners who provide support from our CYP-AccEPT clinic.

What do we do?

  • If your GP or school worker thinks you might be experiencing difficulties that we could help you overcome, with your permission, they will send us information about your situation.
  • When we get this, we will contact you and/or your parent/carer and arrange to have an initial appointment to find out a bit more about you.  This is called an assessment session and will help decide if we are the best place to help.
  • If for any reason it is agreed we are not the best place for you at this time, we will support you to access the right support.

What can you expect?

  • The Wellbeing Practitioners will talk to you about what it is you would like to change and make a plan together to work towards your goals.
  • It may involve a few 1:1 sessions with your wellbeing practitioner and you might agree to do some activities between sessions – maybe through an app, online or activity book.
  • You can also arrange to check-in with your wellbeing practitioner over the phone, email or text so as to help with these activities and make sure everything is OK.
  • All the support we offer is based on evidence that has shown it can be really helpful - and we will always ask for your feedback to find out how it’s going and how you are doing.

Where are we?

We are based at the University of Exeter in the Henry Wellcome Building, Streatham Drive, EX4 4QG.  We are just behind the big Washington Singer building and if you spot the grass roof - you have found us!
