Abstract

We aim to give an overview of evidence and present some of our own data investigating this interesting but complex subject from three perspectives:

  1. Cognitive outcome after coronary artery bypass surgery in older adults - meta-analysis evidence to challenge widely held beliefs.
  2. Shifting the research focus from post-operative outcome to include pre-existing cognitive vulnerability - cardiovascular risk factors associated with cognitive deficit.
  3. Cardiac defects in the very young - developing sensitive research techniques to promote further investigation of neurocognition in vulnerable populations.
