A Cappella Society

Exeter University A Cappella Society

We currently consist of 6 groups covering a wide and exciting range of unaccompanied music!

Hoi Rhapsodoi

SATB group with 11 members singing a huge mix of secular and sacred music from The Beatles to Britten.

SATB group specialising in singing Madrigals - Elizabethan songs about sex and death, ranging from the lusty to the beautiful.

The 'all-man' close harmony groups singing a mix of modern and classic songs from The Beach Boys to Billy Joel. Recently, Semi-Toned picked up awards for "Outstanding Arrangement" and "Outstanding Vocal Percussion" at the Bristol regional round of the Voice Festival UK 2012.

Sweet Nothings

An all-female contemporary group singing a great range of pop and jazz have gone from strength to strength over the years with a large repertoire of original arrangements -- from David Guetta to Coldplay. In the 'Voice Festival UK' 2012, the Sweet Nothings picked up an award for 'most outstanding overall performance'. 2014 in particular has been crazy exciting, winning awards for 'Best Soloist' and 'Best Choreography' in the Best of the Southwest A Cappella Competition, and being named Most Improved Group in Exeter's A Cappella Society.

EDINBURGH FRINGE 2014 - Sweet Nothings are in the process of raising money to go to Edinburgh this summer to perform in the Fringe Festival! Look out for us busking in Exeter town centre and watch this space for videos of gigs and rehearsals. If at all possible, please donate even a tiny amount to help us reach our Edinburgh dream.

Our version of Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car' is now on YouTube.

Take Note (unauditioned):

A group for everyone and anyone who wants to have a bit of fun singing everything from Let it Be to Lean on Me.

Focusing mainly on musicals and opera, this is the society’s newest auditioned group.
