Kay House Duryard
Kay House Duryard is the University’s new state-of-the-art music facility located at Duryard, on the outskirts of the Streatham Campus. The building's location can be seen on the Streatham Campus map.
The venue is a significant new resource both for students and for the broader community that offers a wide range of facilities across two floors.

Ground Floor
Broadwood Theatre Space
- Can be used for theatre rehearsal and occasional performances.
- Adaptable as a seminar room/teaching space for hire to rest of University.
- Occasionally it may be used as a restaurant/dining room and multi-purpose Function Room.
- Dimensions: 9.9m x 10.25m, 101m2, ceiling height 2.3m.
Coffee Bar
- A social breakout space for the building's occupants.
- Contains vending machines, coffee urn, sink & kitchen area (January 2012- as yet coffee shop facilities are not available).
- Dimensions: 4.9m x 7.25m, 36m2, ceiling height 2.3m.
The Gallery
- Can be used either as an exhibition space, or as a circulation/breakout space.
- Dimensions: 12.5m x 5m, 63m2, ceiling height 2.4m
The Juke Box
- Ideal for use by Pub-type bands as a live performance and rehearsal space.
- Can be opened during major performances elsewhere in the building.
- A bottle bar can be provided - please contact the Music Office for further details music@exeter.ac.uk
- Configurable staging available - 3 x 2.25m x 0.295m high.
- Dimensions: 10m x 10.25m, 103m2, ceiling height 2.4m
Amp Room
- Allows high noise levels due to its acoustic treatment.
- Contains the following setup;
1 x Protone Drum Kit
2 x Harley Benton guitar amp (60w)
1 x Marshall amp (50w)
1 x Bass amp
1 x Peavey PV20 USB Mixing Desk
2 x Shure C606/SV100 vocal microphone
2 x Active speakers
Jam Jar
- A small, informal practice room containing an upright piano.
Upper Floor
The Frank Oliver Recital Hall
- Can be used for rehearsals and live performances.
- Contains two grand pianos as standard, plus a Petrof Grand, which may be booked at a further cost.
- Configurable staging available - possible heights of 295mm, 540mm & 785mm, total possible area 20sqm.
- The peak occupancy is 220 persons.
- Dimensions: 9.5m x 18.5m, 176m2, ceiling height 3.91m.
Cabaret Space
- A multi-purpose/adaptable space, ideal for a range of live performances and rehearsals.
- Provides an alternative, more intimate space for piano/openmic performances to the sides of the room.
- Possibility of the addition of a stage area for small groups with large audiences.
- Dimensions: 12.75m x 13.5m, 172m2, ceiling height varies from 2.3m to 4.1m
Colonnade Chamber Room
- Suitable for live performance, rehearsal and recording of small acoustic instrumental/classical groups and choirs.
- The room is designed to mimic a church-like acoustic environment.
- Can also be used as a buffet type social gathering space.
- Dimensions: 6.65m x 12.75m, 85m2, ceiling height 2.5m.
Sound Studio
- Sound engineering for recording live performances.
- Mastering, editing and mix downs.
- Electronic/computer music composition and production.
- Located between the Frank Oliver Recital Hall and the Cabaret Space, with windows looking into each room.
- Please note: as of January 2012 this facility is not yet fully functional.

How to book Kay House Duryard
Kay House Duryard is effectively divided into two areas. Use of any room within the main body of the building requires attending a building training session beforehand. This is compulsory for any individual and a society or group may nominate one of more members to attend on their behalf.

The other area of the building is the All Hours Area, which contains the Amp Room (for the practice of amplified music) and the Jam Jar (for acoustic practice). The All Hours Area is open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
All of the rooms within Kay House Duryard can be booked by students and staff by using the online booking calendar.
