Music and your CV

Music can provide very specific examples of skills sought by employers.  The Director of Music's Office is happy to write references for any students involved in music, but there are also more formal ways of evidencing your experience and skills acquired during your time here.

Exeter Award

Launched in 2008, this is an excellent scheme to mark students' achievements in extra-curricular activities in an official way.  If you are involved in musical activities, the chances are you will already be more than half way to completing it!  See the Exeter Award pages for further details.

Independent work experience module

For those wishing to further develop their skills, perhaps with a view to a career in Arts Administration, work placements are available in the Director of Music's Office through the IWE scheme.

ePDP

Students often use their personal tutor as a reference for job applications, but find that s/he has no knowledge of extracurricular activities that can be as important to employers as academic attainment  Keeping a record of your extracurricular achievements through the ePDP tools available here give your personal tutor access to much more information.

Careers in music

Some of the lectures given during the year relate to careers in music or music-related areas.  Publicity, Arts Administration, Orchestral Management and Events Management are some of the areas covered which you can put directly into practice whilst still at University.
