Exeter event to examine future of energy

This is the latest in a series of Shaping the Future events, organised by the University of Exeter and supported by the Met Office, to bring business, science and the community together.

James Smith was appointed Chairman of Shell UK in 2004 and has been with Shell since 1983, working on all of the Group’s major business. His lecture will draw on Shell’s global, long-term energy scenarios. These scenarios assess how society will respond to the triple energy challenge of sustainability, security and affordability. They reflect hard truths about energy demand and environmental stresses. James Smith will consider what society ‘ought’ to do in response and assess what society could ‘choose’ to do in reality. He will then consider how we can find a way forward together.
