University marathon man breaks world record

Jordan Toy, a 4th year Business and Economics undergraduate and member of the University Officer Training Corps, recently smashed the Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest Marathon in Military Uniform.’

The record was set in the recent 33rd Duchy Marathon with more than 400 runners participating.

Jordan ran the marathon wearing kit that included full body armour, boots and a helmet. He completed the 26 mile course in 4 hours and 5 minutes, comprehensively beating the previous record set in the 2008 London Marathon of 5 hours and 11 minutes.

Commenting on his achievement, Jordan said ‘I’d never run a normal marathon before let alone one wearing military kit, so I was a little apprehensive about competing. But I received lots of advice and training help from the unit, which obviously paid dividends in the end. I’m always up for a challenge and I’m glad I gave it my best shot.’

Jordan is joining the army after he graduates and will be going to the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst to begin his officer training.
