Staff and students can enter until 28 March

Students and staff get 'app-y' in new competition

A new competition, led by the University’s Research and Knowledge Transfer (RKT) team, has been launched to students and staff encouraging them to submit their ideas for new smartphone and tablet apps.

There are three categories: research enabling, societal benefit and commercial, with one potential winner being chosen in each. The competition is open to all staff and students.

Workshops to help those interested in entering the competition are being arranged on both Streatham and Penryn campuses. Full details of dates, times and how to enter can be found on the competition website.

The most inventive, publicly beneficial and commercially promising app ideas will receive funding for development by professional software developers and will be supported to launch.

Sara Hayes from the RKT team, responsible for the competition said: “Many of us will have said to our friends at some point ‘that would make a good app’. We’re delighted to be able to give staff and students the chance to turn that dream into a reality.

“We think this is a great way of supporting the development and wider use of specialist apps to encourage entrepreneurship, enhance research and facilitate new routes to impact and public engagement for everyone at the University.”

The closing date for completed applications is 28 March.
