Professional Mining Programme launched by Camborne School of Mines

Camborne School of Mines has announced the launch of a pioneering new Programme, designed to deliver key learning and professional development to employees and stakeholders within the mining industry.

The Professional Mining Programme will provide current mining employees from diverse business specialisms, regulators and service providers with a wide-ranging, innovative, flexible and industry-relevant exposure to every aspect of the global mining value chain.

The part-time, postgraduate course is delivered by CSM’s internationally prominent mining experts, and has been tailored to meet the changing needs of the mining industry.

The ground-breaking course’s blend online learning with residential workshops in CSM and mining centres around the world, to engage students with critical technical, business practice and stakeholder issues. This approach allows professionals to develop their careers by undertaking accredited advanced educational studies, while maintaining their industry roles.

Programme Director Professor Kip Jeffrey, from CSM, said: “The launch of this programme is another milestone in CSM’s 125 year history of mining education, and marks an important new direction not just for us, but for the industry as a whole.

“These challenging courses are designed to meet the needs of industry staff, mining companies, regulators and professional associations alike, and our practical approach engages academics and students with consultancies, multinational miners, and junior explorers to provide a broad understanding of the mining lifecycle, business drivers and technical knowledge to improve business performance and promote profitable & sustainable mining”.

“We have extensive experience of developing blended learning and residential courses for international mining, mining equipment and construction materials companies; and our students will develop a detailed understanding of the mining value chain from finance, mineral deposit geology and exploration to mine design, mining operations, mineral processing, environmental & social impacts and mine closure, before covering advanced aspects of mining engineering and an industry related business improvement project. In short you will become a Mining Professional.”

Open to experienced mining industry staff; even without degrees but with appropriate experience, in addition to gaining the headline qualification, the programme will also deliver unique benefits such as establishing new international and interdisciplinary networking opportunities, visiting world class mines during the mine study tour, using real world case studies and examples, and involving both technical and professional skills development.

Camborne School of Mines, part of the University of Exeter and based at the Penryn Campus, is one of the world’s most respected Mining Schools.
