University of Exeter retains influential world ranking position

Exeter has been ranked 161^st in the QS World University Rankings, the largest and most extensive international league table, published today (September 15). This is the same position as last year.

This is the 12^th year that QS has published its World University Rankings. They are based on six indicators including academic reputation and employer reputation, and were compiled by considering more than 3,500 universities worldwide and using 121,000 survey responses.

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, said: “This latest ranking reinforces Exeter’s position among the best universities in the world. It demonstrates not just our growing academic reputation through world-leading research, but also how our students benefit from our strong employer reputation.”

Earlier this year, both science and humanities subjects at the University of Exeter were ranked among the world’s best in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.  Geography, History and English Language and Literature appear in the Top 50 worldwide, while in total 15 subjects were ranked in the top 200.

In August, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2015, saw the University leap into the top 200 ranked global institutions. Meanwhile, the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015, which offers key insights into the scientific performance of 750 major universities worldwide, ranked the University sixth in the UK, eighth in Europe and top 40 in the world.

In the most recent Research Excellent Framework (REF2014), Exeter was ranked 16th nationally, with 82 per cent of research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent.
