Event details
Learning is a social process, and learning medicine is no exception. Drawing on survey, experimental, and interview data, this talk will look at how medical students choose their friends, the impact that friends can have on belonging and attainment, and how medical schools can and are influencing the social aspects of learning to be a doctor.
Katherine uses quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate learning and attainment, focussing particularly on ethnic and gender inequalities and how they can be combatted. She has published in journals including the BMJ and Lancet, and her work has had significant impact within medicine, being cited in the Judicial Review into MRCGP and influencing the General Medical Council's differential attainment project.
