Abstract

Corvids are known predators of songbirds at the nest stage. Since the 1960’s, songbird numbers have declined while corvid populations have grown. However, large scale analyses of relationships between population trends of corvids and songbirds do not show the expected negative relationship. The experimental removal of corvids has mixed effects on songbird productivity. My PhD is examining possible reasons for this confused picture. I will present two pieces of work I have carried out so far.

Miss Lucy Capstick (CRAB - University of Exeter), will be giving a seminar with the title 'Factors predicting susceptibility of songbirds to nest predation by corvids. 2) Is predation of artificial nests affected by Magpie territory location?'.

The CRAB seminar series is organised by Elisa Frasnelli (e.frasnelli@exeter.ac.uk).
