Information

Tim Gardam, Chief Executive of the Nuffield Foundation will be giving a short talk on the Foundation's new funding themes. The session will be chaired by Drs Astrid Wissenburg, Director of Research at the University of Exeter.

A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Background

The Nuffield Foundation was set up in 1943 to support “the advancement of social wellbeing…the care and comfort of the aged poor” and “the advancement of education” and the “relief” of the disabled. Throughout 2017, they are revisiting their original objectives. Their aim is to engage with, and to understand the significance of new trends and disruptive forces – social, demographic, technological and economic - that are changing the structures and context of people’s lives.

Their primary objective is to improve people’s lives through better understanding of the issues affecting their life chances. They do this by funding research that has the capacity to influence policy and practice over the medium term and want to work more closely with grant holders to identify new themes and to enhance the resonance and impact of their work.
