Curriculum Theory and the Problem of Knowledge: a personal journey and an unfinished project
In his talk Michael Young will discuss the changes in his ideas about knowledge and the curriculum from his first book (Knowledge and Control 1971) to his most recent book (Bringing Knowledge Back In (2008)) and in particular why he has come to emphasise the importance of teachers and educational researchers differentiating knowledge from experience. He will discuss how both his own professional experience and his re-reading of the works of Emile Durkheim, Lev Vygotsky and Basil Bernstein have been influential in these changes.
