POSTPONED Faculty Development Seminar: Dr Corrina Cory

“Curriculum Design using Gold Standard Project Based Learning (GSPBL) to develop 21st century skills”

Dr Corrina Cory - Senior Lecturer in Engineering and Entrepreneurship, Strategic Curriculum Development Lead (Engineering) Corrina is an Edupreneur and Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in education, engineering and entrepreneurship. Her industry background as a Senior Consultant and Team Leader (Injury Biomechanics) at Arup paved the way to the creation of two of her Limited Companies, a social network and an engineering consultancy selling technical services to global engineering companies. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Engineering and Entrepreneurship and Strategic Curriculum Development Lead (Engineering) where she is co-developing the 2020 Engineering Programme. She has been a GSPBL practitioner for 4 years and recently qualified as a GSPBL Coach through PBL Works. Corrina has put this into practice coaching staff through the development of authentic multi-disciplinary GSPBL projects to empower students with the 21st century skills required for success.

Secondary Contributor Ceri Howells - Associate Lecturer in Engineering and Entrepreneurship Ceri is a PhD student at Cardiff University, currently focussing on the ‘Analysis of Near-Surface Bi-directional Ducted Tidal Stream Turbines’. He recently accepted the position of Associate Lecturer at the University of Exeter, where he is co-developing multi-disciplinary GSPBL modules with Dr Corrina Cory. His academic background in integrated engineering, sustainable energy and environmental protection feed into the technical aspects of the new modules as well as providing students with the skills and mindset required to keep up to date with rapidly evolving technology during the 4IR. Outline The 4IR demands graduates with 21st century skills to help them learn and unlearn rapidly evolving technology and solve complex problems. Gold Standard Project Based Learning (GSPBL) is a globally applied type of PBL, developed by education experts at PBL Works who work in partnership with High Tech High’s and Google to deliver High Quality PBL. GSPBL has been developed to design authentic and engaging projects that harness the 21st Century skills that students require for the global workplace. These include communication, collaboration, adaptability, critical thinking, problem solving, technical literacy, creative thinking and self-management A GSPBL Coach will showcase the process of designing and refining a project using an Engineering and Entrepreneurship module. Teams of 6 will be guided through their own project design process and potential areas for future project developments.
