Evening tour of St Nicholas Priory Museum - FULLY BOOKED

Private Exe-X group tour focusing on the restoration of the Priory and its first museum curator, Maud Tothill

A delightful opportunity to visit Exeter’s oldest building and explore its extraordinary history with this private tour and talk focusing on the 20th century restoration of the Priory and its eccentric patron Maud Tothill.

Event details

Variously during its 900 year history a Benedictine priory, a tudor home, Roman Catholic Mission, school and art college, St Nicholas Priory is now a vibrant, living museum ‘where heritage, culture and creativity meet’.

We will meet at the Priory at 6pm and be conducted on a tour of the building, an introduction to its history and restoration and, in particular, the role played by its formidable founding curator, Maud Tothill (1872-1959). Maud went above and beyond to improve the building over the years and kept numerous pets at the Priory including a raven named Martha, which used to offer up Maud’s hat for donations when she conducted tours!

Our event allows plenty of time for questions and, if there is sufficient interest we may adjourn for a networking drink after the tour.

THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY FULLY BOOKED. You can join the waiting list by registering online. We will let you know if further spaces become available.
