Sustainability Research Strategy

Academic consultation sessions

Event details

Information

The University is moving into an exciting phase of its development, having recently moved into the Russell Group and being placed 7th in the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Our sustainability research activity, defined in the very broadest sense, currently encompasses in excess of 200 research staff, working on all of our campuses, centres and institutes.

This activity generates approximately a third of our research income across all disciplines. Future investment and growth in this area is therefore one of the University’s key research priorities, and will be a defining challenge for the University over the next decade.

We have an opportunity to be pre-eminent in environmentally-focused research if we make the right decisions in the next few years.  It could be our defining characteristic as an institution.

The next round of University investment in research will begin in 2015 following the results of the REF. Sustainability and environmental research will be a key focus for this investment.

We want the academic community to shape this future research strategy and investment, specifically, we want to know:

  • How the future strategy can be shaped to enhance your research activity?
  • Where are the key opportunities for the University?
  • What is your vision for you/your research group/the university for 2020?
  • What are the risks/threats and obstacles to us achieving our goals?
  • Who are our principal competitors, nationally and internationally?
