Investigating Nature-Deficit Disorder as a Medical Matter. Speaker: Dr Sara Warber, MD

Sara Warber, MD is a Fulbright Scholar at the European Centre for the Environment and Human Health, University of Exeter, Truro, Cornwall and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan (UM) Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.

After medical school at Michigan State University and Family Medicine Residency at UM, Dr. Warber completed a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Fellowship. She is the co-founder and leader of the UM Integrative Medicine program. She has authored numerous articles and chapters about integrative medicine therapies and environmental values. She is also the co-founder of the International Society for Complementary Medicine Research.

Dr Warber's current research focuses on two related areas:

  • The effects of multi-modal psychosocial-spiritual programs on whole person well-being
  • The effects of time spent in nature on human health and well-being.  

Her areas of clinical interest include: healthy aging, cancer survivorship and cardiovascular disease.

Methods employed in her research include both qualitative and quantitative techniques, including conduct of meta-analyses and randomized controlled trials. 

She recently participated in a United States National Institutes of Health-funded questionnaire development project to address the need to measure holistic well-being for complementary and alternative medicine research.
