Information
Are celebrities immortalised by public myth and image?
Join researchers at this event to unravel what role iconic musicians like Ian Curtis play in our own ideals of humanity.
At the event you will be able to explore a photo exhibition and watch a feature film including interviews with fans making pilgrimages to the Joy Division singer Ian Curtis’s grave.
Led by Professor Michael Hauskeller and Dr Jennifer Otter, we will explore the role that immortality plays in the reverence that dead rock stars receive, and how this speaks to our own fear of death.
More information about the hosts:
Professor Michael Hauskeller is a philosopher at the University of Exeter with an interest in ethics, beauty, and human enhancement. Dr Jennifer Otter is a Senior Lecturer at the University of East London in the School of Business and Law.
