The European Research Council: Funding Opportunities for Individual Scientists

An open presentation with Dr Andreas Keil, European Research Council Executive Agency

Event details

Who should attend?

This presentation should appeal to potential future applicants in all disciplines and to any scientist or research administrator with an interest in European funding opportunities.

Researchers working in the humanities and social sciences are very welcome to attend as general issues around European Research Council (ERC) funding will also be covered.

What is this event about?

The ERC supports excellent investigator-driven frontier research across all fields of science. Despite being a relatively new organisation, founded in 2007, ERC has already funded more than 4000 research projects. It has become a European and global 'trademark' for research excellence.

The ERC has a budget of more than €13 billion (c. £10 billion) to be distributed to researchers between 2014 and 2020. It offers research grants of up to €3.5 million (£2.7 million) for individual scientists from all over the world. Grantees have the free choice of research topic, team, and location within Europe.

Dr Keil's talk will be general and applicable for all fields of science, social sciences and humanities. The presentation will focus on the following topics:

  • Key features of ERC funding schemes;
  • The related application and evaluation processes;
  • Results from 2007 - 2013 (including the University of Exeter's position).

Dr Andreas Keil

Dr Andreas Keil works in the ERC's Scientific Management Department, based in Brussels.
