Event details
The Centre hosted its first residential conference in April 2007. Held at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, the three-day conference, 'The French Colonial Mind. Mental Maps of Empire and French Colonial Policy-Making' attracted over thirty specialist academics from seven countries. The conference explored the links between preconceptions and attitudes, training and fieldwork, among political elites in France's colonial empire from the conquest of Algeria until decolonisation.
