The Design and Delivery of Low Carbon Buildings
A two day CPD course for architects, engineers and clients run by the University's Centre for Energy and the Environment
Sustainability is not just for the environmentally conscious, its embedded within every 21st Century business model and project in the UK. Architects and engineers not only have demand from the government to create low carbon buildings, proprietors too are seeking new innovations and money-saving systems to maximise the sustainability of their buildings.

Event details
Unfortunately, in the UK there has been a history of the low-energy or low carbon desires of the client not being realised, with new buildings sometimes using more energy than those they replace. To help address this problem the Centre for Energy and the Environment at the University of Exeter is running a two day postgraduate level CPD course on the performance of low carbon buildings and the integration of low carbon energy systems, with the specific aim of reducing business risk.
This CPD course will address a number of key issues:
• Why buildings fail
• Building fabric; thermal mass and insulation
• Ventilation, airtightness and infiltration
• The legislative framework
• Early stage design
• Overheating and adaptation to climate change
• Renewable energy
• Daylighting in low energy buildings
• Low energy artificial lighting
• Heating systems and controls in low energy buildings
• Commissioning a low energy building
The two day course will run both in Taunton and Exeter. You are welcome to attend one day in each location if more convenient.
Day One:
20th June, Innovation Centre, University of Exeter
22nd June, Taunton Conference Centre, Somerset College of Arts and Technology
