Transitions to university: A creative workshop

Three creative workshops for A-level/Sixth Form students to facilitate their transitions to Higher Education

Event details

About the event

This event consists of a series of three workshops aimed at students aged 16+.

The workshops will help students explore the challenges they experience as they consider a possible transition from A-levels to Higher Education.

They will immerse students in a campus learning experience, and draw on innovative methods, informed by research on the development of leadership skills and resilience in transition. In particular, the students will explore the challenges they face in transitioning to University, by creating clay models of the symbolic 'monsters' that threaten them on this journey. Subsequently they will co-create a map of their route through transition, which identifies ways in which these monsters can be overcome.

The workshops aim to show how social science research on leadership development, resilience and transition can have a meaningful impact on students considering Higher Education.

Attendance is free for students from schools invited by the University of Exeter's Widening Participation scheme.

Fuel expenses will be subsidised to support transport costs to and from the University Campus.

Workshops will hold a maximum of 30 students and will be filled on a first-come, first served basis.
