Everyone is welcome to attend this public event.

What is the event about?

#OnTheThrone! Come and sit on our throne and tell us what you would change in your communities.

  • Do you feel like you have the power to change things?
  • Who does have power?
  • Do you think power should be distributed more equally?
  • If so, how?

Big changes affecting everyone are happening in British politics.  We have already seen Cornwall get the devolution deal, giving us a bit more say in what we do here, and many cities and regions are also going to get more powers.  In the next few years we will have further devolution to Scotland and Wales, a referendum on EU membership, decisions on English Votes for English Laws (EVEL), and the size and number of parliamentary constituencies is going to change.

This provides us with an unprecedented opportunity to shape the nature of British politics, and Parliament is currently asking for people’s views on what the British constitution should look like.  #OnTheThrone is a part of this consultation process.

Supported by the Economic and Social Research Council’s Festival of Social Science, the University of Exeter politics department at the Penryn Campus is proud to be contributing to the Conversations on the Constitution organised by the Bernard Crick Centre for Political Understanding at the University of Sheffield.  #OnTheThrone will feed into the UK-wide debate about how we want government in Britain to look, and what individuals should (and shouldn’t) be able to do.

Join us in our conversation! And make your voice heard too!
