Idir's doctoral research focuses on the five year period between two core events in modern Syrian history: the 1920 crushing of the Hashemite Emir Faisal's state and the 1925 Great Syrian Revolt. He will discuss the complexities of French imperial rule in shaping and handling local aspirations and expectations through the cultural institutions of the Mandate regime established in the 1920s.
