Building our Research Impact

A One Day Workshop for all UEBS Impact Case Study Researchers and Interested Academics

Event details

Information

Impact is now a key element of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the Business School needs to excel here to secure excellent outcomes overall in the REF 2021 exercise. This workshop is primarily aimed at impact case study authors, Directors of Research and academics who would like to know more about impact.

This workshop aims to:

  • Provide a detailed overview of REF impact: its history, what constitutes impact for REF purposes and how impact is assessed.
  • Ensure staff are knowledgeable as to the latest developments in this area following the REF consultation exercise recently carried out by HEFCE.
  • Discuss the outcomes of the research monitoring process for impact case study authors and to discuss the ways forward for Units of Assessment 18 (Economics) and 19 (Business and Management).
  • Provide a forum for impact case study researchers to share their cases (so far), to outline their plans for the coming academic year and to receive feedback from peers. Most importantly, we hope that the event will help us bond us as a community of impact-focused researchers.
  • Finally, we will explore a range of 3 and 4* cases to understand the components and dynamics of exceptional impact. The pedagogic style will be highly participatory and offer a balance of discussion, individual reflection, group work and action planning.
