Event details

John Hirst CBE will be delivering the evening’s keynote speech before joining a panel discussion with Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Business School, Professor David Bruce Allen, and the Exeter Centre for Leadership’s Director of Research, Professor Alexandra Gerbasi.

Audience members will have the chance to pose questions in a Q&A session and also the opportunity to network with Exeter alumni, MBA students, academic staff and corporate partners over drinks and canapés.

Kindly sponsored by Markel International, the event is also a chance for guests to find out more about the new Exeter MBA, of which purposeful leadership is at the very heart.

John Hirst CBE

From 2007- 2014 John was Chief Executive of the Met Office and the UK’s permanent representative to the World Meteorological Organisation where he was a member of the Executive Committee and chaired the Audit Committee. He also sat on the councils for ECMWF and EUMETSAT and was member of the UK Space Board. 

John was awarded a CBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours List for his national and international services to Meteorology.

John was CEO of Premier Farnell until 2005 and spent 19 years with ICI Plc, during which he was Chief Executive of ICI Performance Chemicals and ICI Autocolor and Group Treasurer.  He was formerly a non-executive director of Hammerson plc, where he also chaired the Audit Committee.
John Hirst is now a non-executive director of Marsh UK, Ultra Electronics Plc and Anglian Water Group and Chair of the Hammerson Pension Fund Trustees.  He is a member of the Audit, Risk and Remuneration Committees of Marsh and chairs the Audit Committees at Ultra and Anglian, where he is senior independent director.
