Event details

Information

How do we achieve a flourishing future for a projected 9-11 billion people as an integral part of a life-sustaining Earth system?

Researchers are invited to co-create networked, global-scale solutions to address this question. The outputs from this exciting two-day event will provide the focus for the transformative projects to be developed by the Global Systems Institute through seed funding, partnership engagement and bids for external funding.

As a new institute attendees will be shaping the distinctive approach of the GSI by uniting trans-disciplinary groups of researchers to look beyond single ‘environmental’ issues to a truly systemic view of coupled global changes in the human social and economic sphere and the biosphere.

The workshops include:

  • Post-Paris Climate Science: informing action in a complex system
  • How can we transform the land to a carbon sink providing multiple benefits?
  • Achieving sustainable rapid urbanisation
  • The role of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in ensuring sustainable development and a better future?
  • Earth System plastics
  • Circular Economy in Business: Possibilities, Paradoxes and Challenges
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to tackling antimicrobial resistance
  • Global citizen engagement: Who to engage with, why and how?
  • Investing in the future – how can GSI support development of effective Green Finance initiatives?
  • Towards Excellence in Engaging Teaching in the GSI
  • Anarchism, climate change and the problem of scale
  • Humans meet technology meet systems change
  • Revolutions that Made the Earth
