WCCEH Event: Bloodlines

Join us for a conversation on arts, the human body and medicine

The Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health is delighted to partner with Andy Brown and Corinna Wagner for this event.

Event details

Andy Brown’s latest book of poems, Bloodlines, focuses on the human body and medicine. Some offer personal narratives, others explore the longer lines of medical history, while many respond to medical artefacts and sculptures. Exploring subjects from surgery to sanitation, quackery to cholera, Andy will read from the book, show the images that relate to them and begin a discussion on Poetry & Medicine.

Through a range of medical, visual and literary material, Corinna Wagner will trace the historical lines of connection between medicine and the arts. With particular reference to the anthology A Body of Work: An Anthology of Poetry and Medicine, she will explore how art and poetry reflect as well as instigate changing attitudes to medicine, health, and the body.

After the event, you are invited to a drinks reception - and a chance to continue the conversation - in the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health.
