Dr Helen Knowler (Lecturer in Education Graduate School of Education) will talk about 'Exploring collaboration and coproduction in research when working with young adults who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools.'

Event details

In this presentation I want to explore key questions relating to my planned and deliberate attempts to include young adults in my future research.  Drawing on the theoretical insights of Friere and Giroux, I critically reflect on the use of collaborative and coproduced research as both a practice or tool for 'bringing voices into the mainstream' but also as an epistemological challenge in redefining what counts as relevant and valid knowledge in the field of Special and Inclusive Education. I share a framework for a project that I am planning bringing together teachers and excluded young adults and invite dialogue with centre members on the potential and pitfalls of working in this way.
