Event details
Colonel Lucy Giles was commissioned in 1992 after studying at Exeter University. Until recently, Lucy was responsible for the training and leadership development of the next generation of officers overseeing the military, physical and academic programme to prepare young men and women for life as an Army officer in an uncertain world. Promoted in 2018, she is now President of the Army Officer Selection Board in Westbury. During her career Lucy has travelled the world and led her soldiers on operations and deployments in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, East Timor, South Africa and Northern Ireland. Lucy has blazed a trail and acts as a role model for the next generation of female officers.
Lucy has spoken publicly about the juggling act of being an Army officer, a wife to a serving soldier and a mum of two. At the inaugural Women in Defence event, Lucy was given the Inspirational Award and the Woman of the Year 2016 Award. She is an ambassador for First Women UK and was in the Times 500 People of Influence 2016.
Lucy will share with us what leadership means to her, giving women at all stages of their career valuable food for thought.
Organised by the Alumnae Group, this event will be held at the beautiful University Women’s Club in London in Mayfair.
The Alumnae Group works with the University to support and inspire our female graduates (alumnae) and is thought to be the only group of its kind in the UK. For further information on the group, please contact alumni@exeter.ac.uk.
