South West Alumnae Group Speaker Event, Exeter

An Evening of Landscape Archaeology with Prof. Stephen Rippon

The South West Alumnae Group will be welcoming as their guest speaker Professor Stephen Rippon. Stephen is a landscape archaeologist with interests focused on the Roman and medieval periods in Britain and mainland North West Europe.

Event details

He will share a brief update on some exciting developments across the department, followed by a more in-depth overview of the local Ipplepen Project, for which he is the University lead. The project is a partnership between the University of Exeter, British Museum, Portable Antiquities Scheme, Cotswold Archaeology, and Devon County Council, with places available for local volunteers. Started in 2010, the survey and excavation aims to explore the nature of this Roman and early medieval British site. The project has proved remarkable in that both metal detecting and excavations have produced an unusually large amount of material, suggesting that the site may be more than just a typical rural community.
