Event information

A screening of the 2019 Global Documentary film ‘The Race is On: Secrets and Solutions of Climate’, followed by Q&A and discussion with the film’s presenter and producer Dr James Dyke..

In order to avoid disaster, the international community has agreed to limit global warming to no more than 2° Celsius. For that to happen, changes are required across all sectors of UK society. Very few people appreciate just how profound these changes will be.  At current rates of pollution, scientists say that society has just 17 years left before dangerous climate breakdown is ‘locked-in’.

Dr James Dyke is a Senior Lecturer in Global Systems at the University of Exeter.

Global Documentary was born out of the idea that if we want to solve the climate crisis, then it is necessary firstly to communicate the forces at play, and then to show that better ideas do exist. Their aim is to tell the climate story in a way that people can easily understand, and in so doing help shape our global community and help build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.
