Achieving Gender Equality

Why is it that more boys than girls study and embark on careers in science, technology, engineering and maths? Why are men paid more on average than women? Gender equality is currently a very topical issue, thanks in part to news articles focusing on the recent gender pay gap reporting, and the #MeToo, #TimesUp and #HerforShe campaigns – which shined a light on sexual harassment and gender discrimination.  However, much more needs to be done to achieve real equality!
This event aims to bring together researchers, teachers and pupils (aged 16 or over) from across Devon to discuss gender inequality, its causes, and how it can be eradicated. The event will provide a fun and informative environment where pupils can hear directly from social scientists researching this important issue. Pupils will work together to devise projects for tackling gender inequality in their own lives, schools and communities. The event will involve posters, films, presentations and workshop activities.
This event is for young people, schools and colleges.
