Exeter Chiefs to join University for 2018 Community Day

The University of Exeter is hosting a fun-filled family event on Saturday 17 March and will be joined by Rugby Premiership Champions, Exeter Chiefs to help celebrate on the day.

The Spring Community Day is the University’s second event of its kind which will see the Streatham Campus open to the public with a range of free activities, events, workshops and music taking place throughout the day.

The event takes place from 10.30am – 2.30pm and features world-class scientists demonstrating fun experiments with hands-on astrophysics, space worms and the marvel of bees, as well as our students showing off their breakdancing skills, lego building expertise and musical acts.

Families will also be able to meet the world famous Exeter Chiefs, who won the English Premiership last year, and get involved in lots of exciting sport activities, including touch rugby, UV Zumba, cricket, cheerleading, ultimate Frisbee, table tennis, football, badminton and tennis.

Mike Shore-Nye, Registrar and Secretary at the University of Exeter, said; “Following the success of our first Community Day in 2016, we are once again inviting everyone to celebrate our work within the community and the excellent relationships we have built together to ensure the University of Exeter remains at the heart of the city.

“We have always been proud of our heritage and we would not be the institution we are today if it were not for the continued support and engagement from the local community.”

The range of free activities available also includes bouncy castles, face painting, theatre dress up, meeting the Police Armed Response team and much more, such as an interactive stand that will include family-friendly activities to mark the culmination of Exeter’s first Brain Awareness Week, a series of events to promote research around brain health.
