Business School’s ‘Oscars’ shortlisting for industrial placement programme

The University of Exeter Business School’s innovative industrial experience programme has been shortlisted for an international award, dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of its field.

With Industrial Experience is in the running for a QS Reimagine Education Award, within the Nurturing Employability Award section.

In the last 12 months more than 930 Business School students have taken part in the programme, which uses blended learning techniques to help ensure participants and employers get the most from the placements. Students work through a series of underlying development themes over four years – from understanding careers recruitment tools, processes and tactics in their first year, to seeking and securing the right placement in the second, successfully taking part in the placement during the third and reviewing what they’ve learnt as they approach their final year. The programme is surging in popularity with more than 350 first year students joining so far this year.

“To be shortlisted for the QS Reimagine Education Award is an incredible endorsement of the success of our With Industrial Experience programme”, said Professor David Boughey, Associate Dean (Education) of the Business School.

“The programme is constantly being refined by our dedicated careers team, to ensure it meets the needs of both our students and employers. This has resulted in a phenomenal increase in third year students securing placements with top employers. The programme’s success has also had an impact on graduate employability, helping the Business School rise to number 1 in the UK for graduate outcomes*.”

Recent innovations include a unique 3-way structured progress review Skyped between the employer, the student and their Business School employability adviser.

More than 1,150 nominations were received for all of the QS Reimagine Education Awards. The final global winners will be announced in San Francisco, USA later this week.
