Satisfied students
This year's National Student Survey ranks Exeter third among traditional universities for student satisfaction around the quality of our teaching and fifth for overall satisfaction. Exeter has maintained its top 10 position every year since the survey was launched eight years ago. Feedback will now be analysed in detail. Read more online.

Exchange opens in Cornwall
The new £10 million learning, teaching and research hub at the Cornwall Campus – The Exchange – is now open and many services are in the process of being relocated into the building. The Exchange provides access to the full spectrum of academic and support services in one welcoming space for University of Exeter and University College Falmouth students and staff. Download a leaflet, or contact Susie Smith for further details.

Research income doubled
The outturn figure for research income stands at £49.9m, which means that research income has doubled since 2007/8. This is subject to external audit, which is still ongoing.

University achievements
The University has climbed to 153rd place in the 2012-13 Times Higher Education World University league table. We are also short-listed for the Times Higher Education University of the Year award, announced on 29 Nov. As you know, we are The Sunday Times University of the Year. Exeter is the most successful university in the history of the Sunday Times Guide, having been short-listed or won the title five times in the last 10 years. The successful submission was compiled by the Communications and Marketing team who will be using the logo extensively to aid recruitment and further develop the Exeter brand. Visit the logo guidance page which includes a suggested email signature for staff.

St Luke’s update
Investments are being made by the University and Students’ Guild to improve the St Luke’s student experience. A Student Information Desk service in Cross Keys’ reception point has University staff and Guild student staff to help students access support services. Nearly £40,000 has been invested in new equipment for the Gym, pay-per-use is cheaper, and opening hours have been extended. Cloisters Cafe has been redecorated and new menus introduced. A consultation exercise on travel arrangements between campuses will take place soon.

Car sharing boost

Benefits will include one permit per car share team and an emergency travel home fund should your lift fail in the event of an emergency or unforeseen problem. Anyone wishing to take part in the scheme will need to register as part of the University’s private group on the new and improved car share Devon website. More initiatives will follow. Contact Julia Jack with car sharing queries.

LEAN Exeter launches
The LEAN Exeter project is carrying out three pilots looking at the research finance, examinations and recruitment processes across the University. The teams have started working with academic and professional service colleagues and students to understand current processes. Find out more about the project online; also find details of the team rooms and call in.

Opportunities Week
During Opportunities Week (29 Oct – 2 Nov) first year students will be offered a range of special activities, and for most there will be no scheduled teaching. The week aims to enrich the curriculum and inspire students to engage with the Grand Challenges running this summer as well as academic skills development and employability activities.

Follow the Library
The Library has launched a new Facebook page, Library news blog and Twitter accounts @ExeterUniLib for Exeter or @FXLibrary for Cornwall. Also, Research Libraries UK has welcomed the University of Exeter as its latest member. RLUK now represents 33 of the leading research libraries in the UK and Ireland.

Cycle challenge
A University team is cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for Hospiscare. Five Campus Services staff and a local supplier are cycling in memory of Karen Foggett, a former Campus Services Retail team employee who sadly passed away in April. The team hopes to reach John O’Groats on Weds 10 Oct and raise £10,000. Anyone wishing to support the Karen Foggett Memorial Cycle can do so via their Just Giving page or follow their progress on Facebook or via their Twitter feed.

Student Ambassador recruitment
Student ambassadors are being recruited from across all three campuses to work on various widening participation and student recruitment events. Staff are encouraged to promote the scheme amongst students by directing them to the ambassadors website. Deadline 2 Nov.
